YouTube-sday™: Triple Play

I was pretty unsure what in the world to post for today's YouTube-sday™, so I decided to let fate decide. So I fired up my mp3 player, hit shuffle and grabbed the video of the first song on the list. And to make it even more fateful (or show how huge of a loser I really am), I decided to expand it and post the first three. So no more delay - here are the first three songs from a shuffle of MusicMatch:

Right guard

After the fantastic win on Tuesday night, many right wing pundits still like the claim the country is "center-right", meaning that as a population, our thoughts and ideals border being in the center or leaning to the conservative right.

Today, the NY Times posted a very interesting map:
This map is fairly simple. What is shows is the voting habits for each county in the US. The colors signify the difference between the voting habits from the 2004 election and the 2008 election. If the county is red, the voting in that area was more Republican in 2008 compared to 2004. If it's blue, then the county voted more Democratic in 2008 than 2004.

Now, I'm no political expect (though I do play on on TV), but to me, that map tells me that while certain states still voted Republican than Democratic, from the ground, many more votes were placed for the blue side of the ballot than the red side.

You can enjoy the map yourself at this link. Just click on the "voting shifts" button on the left and have interactive fun zooming in and getting more detailed information.

The last word on baseball this year.

So the Phillies won. While I wasn't 100% correct on my post season predictions, I did get the winner correct, so 10 bonus points for me. Congrats Phils, and I don't think we have heard the end of the Rays yet.

In other baseball/election news, did ya watch the best infomercial yesterday? Granted, I blew it. I screwed up the time and missed the whole thing. But I know what YouTube channel I'll be on at lunch. Anyway, there is this Scholastic News reporter Elizabeth Conway that has been talking with candidates this election year. During a recent one-on-one sit down with Barack she asked a few "either/or" fun questions and got the following response to one:

What did you ask Obama? I said, "You're a tough guy, I'm a tough girl living in a tough world. What advice do you have for tough people like me to make a difference in the world?" I also created five fun facts where I give two choices and he picks one. . . . For Red Sox or Cubs, he goes "neither." All his staff people cracked up laughing.

"Neither". Man....I LOVE THIS GUY!!!

Wait a minute. Look closer at that scarf. Right above the blur of the marker it definitely says "Vote", but what is that animal printed on the material? The GOP's logo is an elephant, and the Dem's is a donkey. Here's what they look like:

That is definitely NOT an elephant. One would think if you are going to drop $150k on clothes to make your image look better, you would pay a little more attention to what you actually purchase.

And before you ask, Sarah - no, just cuz you wear that scarf, you can't join our party. Now go away.

{Looking for the number to U-Haul}

Above you see what a GOP woman's group in California thinks is decent campaign material. They put this out because they think electing Obama would put his face on food stamps. The leader of this group of morons, Diana Fedele, claims she didn't think it was offensive and anything placed on the "bill" was just food to her and she never meant to make it racist.

I really think it's time to just leave this country. We have learned and taught nothing in the past 150 years. It it still acceptable to some people to judge simply by how someone looks with no regard to their character. I want to pack up and leave. And the rest of us that find this offensive should leave too. Let this country fall to pieces - I don't wanna live with these narrow-minded jerks as my neighbors any longer.

And if the money isn't enough, this pretty much seals the deal:

2+2 =....er.....let me get back to you on that

Senator John McCain continues to try and prove to the world how he is the man that should be elected the 44th president of the United States. In that, and based directly on some discussion during debate #2 with Barack Obama, the McCain website posted a press release detailing the 100 economists that agree with Sen. McCain's policy on fixing this dreadful money situation we are currently dying through. You can read it here.

It appears that McCant, among the other things he is unable to do (like use the internet), seems to be unable to add as well. The list has only 90 names. Yup - 90. And this man wants us to trust him to solve all our economic struggles?

BAAAAAAAAANNERMAAAAAAAAAAN!

Baseball is over (unfortunately) and it's time for Blackhawks hockey. What a glorious time of the year. Fast action, bone jarring hits, 100mph frozen disks flying all over the place - LOVE IT! Since we had a predict-a-thon for MLB, let's do the same for the NHL:

East:
Atlantic - Penguins
Northeast - Canadians
Southest - Capitals

West:
Central - Blackhawks
Northwest - Wild
Pacific - Sharks

And the other post-season teams:
East - Flyers, Sabers, Leafs, Senators & Bruins
West - DeadWings, Stars, Flames, Blues & Ducks

And with the Hawks having ALL GAMES, not just road, but home games, on television - this is going to be one freaking sweet season. Not sure, just yet, if we will lift Lord Stanley's hardware, but the Hawks are lining up to hoist that baby soon. Game on!!

So good to be wrong.

So the 2008 MLB season has come to a close, and I am SO GLAD my preseason predictions were wrong, at least in one division. Let's look them over and see how I did, shall we:

AL East - Boston (WRONG - Tampa with the Cinderella season)
AL Cental - Detroit (WRONG - they finished dead last)
AL West - Seattle (WRONG - finished even worse that Detroit)
Al Wild Card - Cleveland (WRONG - 0 for 4 in the AL predictions)

NL East - Philadelphia (DING DING!)
NL Central - Milwaukee (WRONG - so close, they got the wild card)
NL West - Arizona (WRONG - they were doing good until the last couple weeks of the season)
NL Wild Card - Chicago (WRONG - they won the division over the Brew Crew)

For playoff team wise, I got four of the 8 picked. Ok - now for the predictions that really matter:

Boston and the Angels - Angels in 5
White Sox and Rays - Sox in 4
Phillies and Brewers - Phillies sweep
Cubs and Dodgers - Dodgers in 4

Angels and White Sox - Sox in 7 (team love) Angels in 6 (gut)
Phillies and Dodgers - Phillies in 7

White Sox and Phillies (team love) - Sox in 7
Angels and Phillies (gut) - Phillies in 7

Under all them robes...

Congrats to Barack, for that total ownage of Sen. McCan't. I enjoyed the numerous times Obama pulled out facts that directly opposed what McCan't said, and there the Republican cadidate is, stewing with a silly smile on his face, knowing he was caught, and never responding to the facts presented. And it was brought up that McCan't never looked at Obama during the entire debate, and that may be true.

Anyway, according to this article, a group/gaggle/mob/flock of members of the KKK were going to show up at the debate, but would not be in regalia. Which just goes to show how pathetic the group is. Not only do they have no courage to show their faces, unless they are sounded by police keep the people fighting against their hatred at bay, they definitely have ZERO guts to show up somewhere even in their cute little bath robes. Gutless cowards.

Here's something I may have linked before - it's a photo essay (with some audio files on a few pictures) of a woman that sews the dresses for KKK members. It's interesting, and at the same time, saddening.

Let's just face facts...

The guy even makes THESE look good:

Friday, September 26, 2008

Is this for real?

Can someone.....ANYONE.....please tell me how 40-some percent of this country can honestly think that this person has one shred of ability to potentially be the President of this land? I would call it an embarrassment of a campaign, if it wasn't for the gnawing fear and horror that yes - they could actually win this thing.

Now, I understand there are many people, who in their hearts and minds, believe that conservative values are in line with their values. And really, I do respect them. I think they may be a little skewed because of my liberal thinking, but their belief of smaller government and other conservative ideals has resonated in their lives for a long time and they have a genuine desire (I feel) to benefit us all. Yet, it cannot be denied there are some people that vote Republican for one or two reasons and compromise the rest of their desires and morals. Others are scared into voting that way cuz the the big bad terrorists are coming our way with WMDs and all this other crap (see 2004 & 2006 elections). Then there are the last group - out and out racist citizens that will vote one way only because the candidate on the other side has dark skin. While I am disappointed with the middle two groups, this last bunch disgusts me. I think it might be time to give that whole secession thing another try.

Another is gone.

Last night was the last baseball game in Yankee Stadium. Yanks are all but eliminated from the post season, so the House that Ruth built saw it's last action last night. I never visited the park - just saw it from the Empire State Building, but I wish I could have been there just once. Add it to my other misses - the Boston Garden, Montreal Forum, Tiger Stadium, Astrodome, Maple Leaf Gardens, and a host of other arenas.

Last night, during the telecast on ESPN, a bunch of old timers visited the booth to share stories of Yankee Stadium. I thought "the heck with play-by-play...just tell stories all game!!". The part that was the best occured with Whitey Ford and Yogi Berra going through old times. Oh - for an hour alone with them to tell about the good ol' days of the game. Of all the talk about past Yankee greats, their time ended with this fantastic Yogi story/quote, that actually occured at Comiskey Park. As Yogi told it:

Whitey was on the mound against the White Sox. First pitch of the game, Luis Aparicio smacked a double. Nellie Fox followed by laying down a bunt on the first pitch and beating it out to first. The first pitch to the next batter, Minnie Minosa, hit him in the neck, loading the bases. Ted Kluszewski took the first offering he saw out over the fence for a grand slam. Manager Casey Stengel comes out to the mound to talk to his pitcher and asks Yogi "Does Whitey have any stuff tonight?" to which Yogi replied:

"How the hell would I know. I haven't caught a ball yet."

Classic Yogi. See ya, old girl.

And you are sticking to that story?

So the pandering VP pick known as Alaska governor Palin got into a little chat this morning with Charles Gibson on ABC. As expected, she spoke about this and that, skirted questions when possible, told outright lies, and dropped the new RNC talking point trying to explain her knowledge of national security:

"Let me speak specifically about a credential that I do bring to this table, Charlie, and that’s with the energy independence that I’ve been working on for these years as the governor of this state that produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy."

Along with this incredible osmosis talent that makes you some great foreign policy guru:

"You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."

So energy is what makes you some security pro? That's what makes you qualified to possibly be the #2 person in the US? Really????

Elitists - line up to the right.

Remember day 1 of the RNC? First Lady Bush and Repub candidate lady McCain came out to talk. Well Vanity Fair did a little vetting (a heck of a lot more than they did for Palin) about the outfits these two ladies were wearing. Ms. Bush's outfit cost about $3500-$4300 bucks. Ms. McCain's little number cost about $300k. Yes - three hundred thousand dollars! That's a 3 followed by 5 zeros. In case you are wondering what better that money could have been spent on in this world, besides a pale attempt to show 250 million Americans that you are NOT some rich snob looking down on the middle class, here's a short list:

... one and a half houses, given the national median home price of $206,500.

... a year's worth of health care for 750 people.

... the full array of back-to-school supplies and clothes for 500 kids.

... enough gas to drive cross-country 543 times.

... 365 round-trip flights from Washington, D.C., to Anchorage, Alaska.

... a three-course steak dinner (at Mat-su Resort) and a movie ticket (for the Mat-su Cinema) for every man, woman, and child in Wasilla, Alaska.

Wash behind your ears.

I run across stuff that I think "Hey - I need to get snarky and write a post about this", so I will save a link into a text file with the intention of getting back to digesting and mentally regurgitating my thoughts. Needless to say, that list is getting pretty big, so hows about some backwash on a few, just to empty it a bit:

**Here's a great YouTube video about Sicks Stadium - home to the Seattle Pilots and Rainiers. Music ain't great but the pics are pretty cool.

**I find this article a little sad. Forgotten for 35 years? May I never go through that.

**I like this video. It has nothing to do with the fact she is female or how she is dressed or anything like "Boy, she's hot". In fact, I only saw the video cuz it was linked through another site I visit. I just find her hula hoops skills pretty cool. Now, I can see how someone loves dance and can turn that into a career. Just what kind of career does a hula hooper have? Anyway - check out her mad skillz.

**In a related story to the woman forgotten for 35 years, Scotty not only can't find the power, Capt'in - his remains can't seem to make it to outer space.

**And lastly, in another level of relation to Scotty, did you know the laptops on the International Space Station don't have any anti-virus software? Hey Buck Rogers, ever hear of AVG?

The invisible man

Hey - check out that awesome graphic! Man - Obama is a total jerk. Look how low those tax breaks are for people! He is such a comple....wait a minute. The low is $161,000? What about me? What about 95% of America? What is the differences between the plans across the income board? Let's see the whole table:

Income McCain avg. tax bill Obama avg. tax bill
over $2.9mil -$269,364 +$701,885
$603K-$2.9mil -$45,361 +$115,994
$227K-$603K -$7,871 +$12
$161K-$227K -$4,380 -$2,789
$112K-$161K -$2,614 -$2,204
$66K-$112K -$1,009 -$1,290
$38K-$66K -$319 -$1,042
$19K-$38K -$113 -$892
Under $19K -$19 -$567

Nice distortion of the facts, CNN. Funny - you interview a wealthy person about this table (well, HALF table you displayed) and he thinks the top 5% can handle Obama's plan (the talk starts about 1:20 into the video):

Me... a name I call myself

I love music. Not just in the car, but when doing chores, on the computer - anywhere. I sit at my desk during lunch and shuffle my mp3s while I eat.

That being said - I have no idea why I have some of the songs I have. Don't recall if I downloaded some as a goof, if I really like the song, if I was drunk.....what. I just know that, on occasion, some pretty weird crap will come in the play list. Examples, you say? Ok - check out this little section that hit my ears today:

"Jingle Balls" by The Singing Dogs
"Don't Let Me Down" by The Godfathers
"Special" by Garbage
"Holly Jolly Christmas" by Burl Ives
"Stars" by Switchfoot
"Only Wanna Be With You" by Hootie & The Blowfish
"Can't Take My Eyes Off You" by The Four Seasons
"Killer Queen" by Queen
"The Night Chicago Died" by Paper Lace
"Home" by Barenaked Ladies
"Sex Bomb (Death Metal version)" by Ten Masked Men
"The Remedy" by Jason Mraz
"Message Of Love" by The Pretenders
"Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" by Elmo & Patsy
"Something So Strong" by Crowded House
"Run Rudolph Run" by Bryan Adams
"O, For A Thousand Tongues To Sing" by David Crowder Band
"Apple Tree" by Wolfmother
"Generals and Majors" by XTC
"(The Legend Of) Johnny Kool" by Brian Setzer Orchestra
"The Click" by Good Charlotte
"Without Love (There Is Nothing)" by Tom Jones
"Lunch Lady Land" by Adam Sandler

Now, I have no idea why Musicmatch went all Christmassy in that section, but man....how weird are some of those songs? I am either super eclectic, or a total dweeb. If you want a PDF of my library, just ask. You are welcome to anything in it. Then you too can be confused.

143 years and still counting.

Heading home from work yesterday, a pickup truck entered the expressway about 10 miles from my home, proudly flying the stars and stripes of Old Glory. But he had the stars and bars of the Confederate States waving beside it.

Why?

Why have so many learned nothing and still have this innate hatred of their fellow man? Why is this even allowed to still exist? This symbol of slavery is flown everywhere. You hear and read so much of people that claim "It's not racism. It's just me honoring my ancestors and celebrating my heritage." Your ancestors enslaved humans and your heritage is a disgusting line of cruelty!! Why do we not believe the claim when someone flies this and says "it's just me remembering my legacy"? Cause we know that symbol is wrong, just as the Confederate flag is wrong. Justify it all you want - no person that believes in the equality of all men would think the flag is anything but the support of a horrible blemish in the history of the US, and the world.

And now, here we are as a country with a qualified African American poised to take a seat behind the most powerful desk in the country, and yet - too many still live and think as if we are still in an era of intolerance. I think instead of them seceding, we just need to kick them out.

Are we getting too lazy?

I remember a short time back yet another article telling us how fat and lazy we are as a nation. Stinks how true it is, but facts are facts. And then I was in the washroom earlier (when nature calls, one must respond accordingly) and I noticed just how many inventions are around that do nothing but contribute to that laziness. Granted, many do not affect the whole tub-of-lard thing, but as a nation, we are some lazy dudes.

Back to the bathroom and auto flushing toilets. Now com'on.... is it that dang difficult to push the lever down??? Do you get some weird enjoyment over leaving what you left in the bowl for the next person to view? And what about the faucets? There is no way you can wet your hands, dispense soup, lather and rinse all in the 6.4 seconds the hot water button stays down. That is at least a three push procedure. But sometime, in the past, someone just turned the water on, washed up and walked away. I wonder just what the homes of these people look like (or smell).

Game, Set.....FIRE!

According to this article, PETA got all bent out of shape with how the officials at the All England Club were getting rid of pesky pigeons. So officials bent to the PETA whackjobs and are now using hawks to get rid of the pests. PETA is all bent cuz they claim removing the pigeons was because they are "inconvenient" and not the dirty gross things they are. Has PETA ever seen what pigeons do around the world? These are not pretty animals. They are rats with wings, and beyond unhealthy.

I find that ESPN article pretty ironic. PETA loves to throw around part of their name ("Ethical"), when they are anything but. See, PETA (have you noticed I won't link to them? You'll see why soon enough) doesn't help animals - they kill them. PETA has a large walkin freezer at their headquarters. Why? Well, either they actual like to eat meat, or they need to store cadavers. You can read more about it at this WAY BETTER site about PETA. Or, if you don't mind a few foul words, check out this YouTube video from Penn & Teller.

PETA are hypocrites. They condone the exploitation of animals, that they themselves exploit. They have a horrible record for getting animals into adoptive homes, killing them instead. And many PETA supporters use the very products to survive that they turn around and fight against.

That's it - I'm done. I'm going to get me a burger.

Battle formations!

A while back (I don't quite recall....let's say March), I joined in with a bunch of coworkers playing a free online game called Ikariam. If you have ever play the great Age of Empires series, you will find this game pretty entertaining.

Basically, you join and are thrown onto an island. You need to start building your colony, gathering resources (wood on all island, plus a luxury resource of either wine, glass, sulfur or marble) and generally expand. You gather, build up your buildings, expand and research. In time, you are able to plant new new colonies to gather other resources as needed thru the game. You will find you need wood and marble to build, sulfur to construct your army, glass to research and wine to keep your people happy. At first, you are spending money to get this, but as you expand your cities, you can plant your butt on a new island with the resource you need, then just ship these goods as needed through your world.

Or - you can just build your army and kick the snot out of your neighbors and take what you need. That tends to be more fun. From puny, weak slingers (don't tell Goliath), up to gyrocopters, and from weak ram ships to submarines, this game has quick the range of military units to recruit and use in battle. You also can form or join an alliance for protection and coordinated butt whoopin'.

It's not real time, and you are really just the king of your towns, telling people where to go (mostly to their death), so it requires less active play time. Heck - by the time you are level 17, some things take hours or even days to upgrade. So you can just queue it up and walk away.

If you have some idle time a like to push people around (usually 11 year old kids in Poland), check it out. You can find me on the Eta server.

BRING US THE FINEST MEATS AND CHEESE!

Ya gotta love the Foo Fighters. Not only are they putting out some of the better rock you hear lately, they are a band that genuinely has fun being a band. How much? Take a little gander at their rider. Brilliantly funny if written by the band. Even cooler if written by a roadie, since the band let's it go out as it reads. Foo doesn't seem to act all snooty as other artists have in the past. There are silly asks, and then there are just plain "I am better than you" asks, which only prove they are NOT better than us.

Like Screech. Someone needs to remind Dustin that his 15 min ended a good 10 years back. Sharon Stone demands so much for a crappy movie. Diana Krall sure likes wine. And Metallica are just corporate sellouts.

I have no real idea what to put up, so let's try this: I fired up iTunes. Gonna hit shuffle and whatever comes up, I'll search for a video with that song. And let me preface this idea with some information: my 15 year old son and 12 year old daughter each have an iPod and share this iTunes. Could make for an interesting shuffle. Without further adieu.....

Phew.....that could have gone pretty bad. :D

Happy Mother's Day

So Sunday is Mother's Day - honoring the woman who saw the worst in you, tried to raise you right, teach you to be good, took care of you when you were sick, bought you tons of toys and baked some mighty fine meals. We should all be thankful for the mother we have - she was just perfect for us.

Oh - wait. Unless you are currently a sitting member of the House of Representatives and a Republican. They hate moms. Even their own. What - you don't believe me? See for yourself.

Kids will be kids

So I read the Cubs will be having a minor league baseball game played at Wrigley in a couple months.

So how do you categorize what's been played there the past 100 years?

YouTube-sday™: So two years ago

Yeah, the whole Diet Coke/Mentos thing is old news, but this video shoots it at 1200 frames per second. Sort of mezmerizing.

I forgot.

I completely forgot about YouTube-sday™ yesterday. Got busy at work and BAM!!! The day was over and I forgot.

Interesting enough, today I read this link, and for me forgetting, it's the perfect follow up to my small error. Here's the gist of the link: the current administration in the White House has totally screwed up and violated the law when it comes the email correspondence. See, while the previous admin (ie: Bill Clinton) had no issues with the archiving of emails as required by law, this current admin just scrapped the entire system (automated, btw) for their own, which was a manual back up and wide open to be exploited. And to top it off, many of the people in the WH admin used personal email addresses to send correspondence. If just one of those emails sent had anything to do with the action of the White House and the law of the land, that is a serious violation of federal law. Over 1/3 of the current emails on the server for these personal accounts (Republican National Committee email accounts, for the record) were sent to .gov emails, so we can assume at least one the millions of lost emails went to a .gov address.

That leads me (and should lead you) to one of two conclusions: either Dubya and the rest of his cronies are the STUPIDEST people on the face of the earth, or the most corrupt.

Either/or, that makes him the worst president ever. Especially when they are planning another bull%$&# war.

LAME!

Anyone had Cracker Jack lately? Can the prize inside get any worse? I remember when they had some pretty sweet prizes. Heck - I used to live near the plant (when it was by Midway Apt), and you could walk in there an buy a bag of just Cracker Jack prizes. And there were some sweet prizes in the past. Little toy cars, stickers, trivia slide cards, maze games....tons of cool stuff for a quarter, with the caramel corn as a bonus.

Now? Geeez. There's a word for it. And let me see if I can spell it correctly:

C-R-A-P

Man - I can't believe the current prize selections dropped in the bag. And they refer to it as a "toy surprise". Oh, it's a surprise alright. You wanna tell me how folding the corners over on some paper to cover the face of a young Susan B. Anthony to show an OLDER Susan B. Anthony is "designed for fun"?? They don't even mention "Toy Surprise Inside!" on the front of the bag anymore. Just have Jack holding that pathetic piece of paper. Bring back the baseball cards!!!

Thank goodness for zero trans fat, though.

CRIKEY!

So I guess the Crocs thing is still going along ok. I really could care less their yearly sales and such, but they are still popular footwear, as I see them on feet about town.

Here's what I don't get - aren't they kids shoes? They certainly aren't big on support, and you won't be a track star in them. I can see the idea of a lazy, quick slip-on, but they are not are shoes for a man, which it what I saw the other day while driving. What guy goes to Target or Walmart, thinks these suckers are fashionable and gets himself a pair? Mandals are bad enough on a dude. Now crocs?

This world is going to Hell. I swear.

Best part - according to his Wikipedia entry, he's working on new material. Sweet!

The hell with warm weather!

Today is one of the most glorious days in the world (besides January 21st, 2009, when that joke of a Commander in Chief is finally gone). Everyone starts in first place (er.... 'cept for Boston and Oakland, who already played a couple games in Japan, and the Nats and Braves, who played last night). The grass will be a beautiful green, if you can see it through the fog and rain drops.

So, shall I make predictions? Sure - it's like the cool thing to do:

AL East - Boston
AL Cental - Detroit
AL West - Seattle
Al Wild Card - Cleveland

NL East - Philadelphia
NL Central - Milwaukee
NL West - Arizona
NL Wild Card - Chicago (yeah, I hate saying that, but they have a chance)

World Series: Detroit over Philadelphia in 6

Sorry Cub fans. But don't worry - every team has a bad century.

You-Tube-sday™: Good boy!!!

In a word: brilliant! I would hope they spend some time with him, though. Now if only they could make a machine like that for shooting my kids to school everyday. Then I'll go pick them up with my mouth and put them back in the machine.

Hey lil' buddy...

I was a bit surprised when I heard about Dawn Wells getting busted for pot. I mean, she's 69 years old. Don't you ever grow out of the desire to smoke the stuff?

Then again, she did work with Bob Denver, who was that total stoner in Dobie Gillis.

A is for America

Where I live, they are building new schools left and right. While I have watched the farm land turn into housing year after year, there is still a lot of land left to develop, so I am sure the school construction will continue.

Now, I am all for that. I mean, I have two kids and they need to be ed-jah-ma-cated. I am having a had time grasping where the school board comes up with the names for the schools. They started out pretty normal, named after the land area (Grand Prairie, Meadow View) or just location in regard to the high schools (Central, North, South, East). Then they moved to people. Your standard famous like JFK and Jefferson and a couple local folk. Then they did something that, at the time may have made sense, but now, I think is a little silly. In the drive for patriotism (which I am all for), they named a couple schools Freedom and Liberty. Great words, mind you. But certainly not school names, in my opinion. They have been open a year, and still no mascot name. There is already a Eagle mascot. What else could either of those use? The Freedom Uncle Sams? Liberty Bells? Yeah - that nickname won't get the male student's butts wiped...

I hope they go back to the people names. Not saying I want a school named after me. Bad idea, if you ask me. Geez, I can only guess what that mascot might be.....

YouTube-sday™: Royal w/ cheese

Last night, my wife, son and I are watching the tube and we watch some 20/20 special about Queen Elizabeth. I wouldn't say it was riveting television, but it was fun. And it got decidedly more fun when my wife and I started getting weird. See - at times, we will just mute the volume of a show and add our own soundtrack. Been doing it for many a year.

Last night, it started with a segment mentioning that their is no official royal airplane (like Air Force One), but they will charter a flight. That started the barrage of ridiculous ideas in our heads, all spoken in pathetic English accents. From "one bag of peanuts? I am not amused", to "I rather enjoy exiting the plane on the emergency ramp. A royal decree - that shall be my standard exit henceforth", we we just cracking up the rest of the show. There is nothing like just messing with extremely prim and proper people and having something like "Welcome to the cockpit, your Majesty. Tell me Liz... you ever been in a Turkish prison" said to them.

Well - on that note, enjoy Tony Blair singing some Clash:

Talkback

So Crayola got back to us:

Dear Kathy and Jeff,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and recommendations with us.

Crayola is constantly striving, through our own marketing and research and development departments, to develop new products, concepts and improve existing ones to meet consumer needs. We recognize that consumers like you are our most valuable assets. By listening to your comments, we can provide the best quality products and services available. Your comments have been recorded with similar ones received from consumers.

Crayola is the manufacturer of high quality creative expression products and artist materials, marketed primarily under the Crayola(R) and Silly Putty(R) brand names. Most of our color names are taken from the Universal Color Language and Dictionary of Names, which was published by the U.S. Bureau of Standards. We use this reference guide because everyone sees and expresses color differently. Using the Universal dictionary as a base, we can refer to a standard color system and color names. Many crayon names are also borrowed from traditional artists' paints.

To learn more about naming new crayon colors, please visit http://www.crayola.com/promos/kidsChoice/index.cfm.

We appreciate your contact. If additional assistance is needed, you may reach us by telephone at (800) 272-9652 weekdays between 9 AM and 4 PM Eastern Time or e-mail by visiting Crayola.com.

CRAYOLA

This line caught my eye: Most of our color names are taken from the Universal Color Language and Dictionary of Names, which was published by the U.S. Bureau of Standards. There is an actual book out there listing the colors "Granny Smith Apple", "Neon Carrot", and "Razzle Dazzle Rose"??

Overall, a lame response. I hope they back that up with a free box of crayons in the mail or something.
